The Best Goto and Tokwa’t Baboy

Marikenos have been making fantastic claims about a decrepit eatery in Sta. Elena Marikina City. They swear that this humble joint – Macky’s Eatery – serves the best goto and tokwa’t baboy in the country. My curiosity piqued, I decided to visit the place one lazy Friday afternoon.

On entering the eatery, I was reminded of Ma Mon Luk: curt service, an antiquated ceiling fan, and wooden chairs and tables. Unlike Ma Mon Luk, Macky’s does not have the scent of sweaty feet.

I ordered and paid at the counter (P56 for both dishes). Food arrived after 5 minutes. I was not disappointed.

The tokwa’t baboy, to my delight, was actually tokwa’t crispy lechon soaked in slightly sweet vinegar. The goto was ladden with kasubha, and has pieces of beef and a portion of coagulated blood. I was amused at the inventiveness of the person who came up with this goto variation, combining two Filipino street food (Betamax and goto) into one dish.

I would have enjoyed it more if their goto had chicharon topping, but cholesterol-wise, that maybe asking too much.

  1. You never had goto with betamax before? Daming ganon sa Marikina, specifically, bandang Sto. Nino.
